Reading is my drug. I love to get lost in a great book to escape into worlds that are usually much cooler than mine! >.<

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire #1)

A Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin I'm going to put this one on hold for a while and probably finish it once the TV series starts. So I'm not going to give it a rating just yet. It's not that the book is bad, by all means, it's just really not my kind of story (the whole overused medieval english setting). I still wanted to give it a try since it had so much praise and the series is coming out soon. I just found it very slow moving and lacking in tone. I hate soap operas for the same reason. This was very similar. The story itself is not boring, just immensely tedious. I will say this, the book has many characters. So much so that there is an Appendix at the end to keep track. But nevertheless, the characters are very well developed and I didn't have a problem keeping track. They have depth and are believable as well. I really enjoyed Arya, Jon and Bran in particular. But since every chapter is a different character's point of view, when it got to a less interesting character (Catelyn), I'd think "Aww not her" and it made it harder to get through. The plot well, I'm still not sure...!!? Trying to find out why they killed the last Hand? Ok well, we never got to really care about him at all, so who cares? Lannisters want to take over the throne and have all the power? Yawn... The whole "zombies with blue eyes" beings beyond the wall is the only part that really caught my interest. :)So although I can see the attraction of this series for people who are Really into these medieval stories, it's not for everybody. EDIT: I'm really liking the show, but I don't think I will be finishing the books which are too slow paced for me.
