This was a re-telling of the classic Beauty and the Beast story - or so I'm told. Yup... believe it or not, I have never read or watched the Beauty and the Beast. Of course I knew the basis, but this was my first full experience with the classic story. My first thought: I liked it. As a story it was fairy-tale like, as expected. So: cheesy and obvious. But romantic and cute as well. It also didn't hurt to get to picture Pettyfer as Kyle. ;) The writing was simple and made it easy to go through the book in a day. I didn't much care for the annoying chat parts though. They mostly consisted of him complaining excessively which added nothing to the story. I liked the transformation of Kyle into Adrian and how he became another person completely - which was the point I guess. It was done realistically and not too suddenly. The whole story had a nice gradual pace except his relationship with Lindy, which felt a bit rushed and, thus, improbable. But that's the beauty of a fairy tale right? Everything is easy and it all falls perfectly into place. It was a good book. I'm happy I finally know the classic tale in depth. I'm not sure if not having read the classic affected my liking of this book or not, but I would still suggest anyone who liked the tale to read it.
