I bought this book before knowing it was part of a series (saw it in the best selling section) so I read it anyways and I really liked it. I found that the ending could have been a bit more climactic (I'm used to Alex Kava and her heart-stopping endings) but it still made me buy the 1st one of the series to see how it all started.
